Indian Railways has brought a major relief for train passengers by increasing IRCTC ticket booking hours for Aadhaar-verified users. Starting January 12, verified users can book reserved train tickets throughout the day and even up to 12:00 midnight on the first day of the Advance Reservation Period (ARP).
This update is being rolled out gradually in phases.
✅ What’s New in IRCTC Ticket Booking Timings?
As per an official update from IRCTC, passengers who have completed Aadhaar verification will now get much more flexibility while booking tickets when the reservation window opens.
Earlier timing (first day of booking):
🕗 8:00 AM to 🕛 12:00 Noon
New timing (first day of booking):
✅ Full day access till 12:00 Midnight
This means Aadhaar-verified users can now book tickets even late at night on the opening day—making the process easier for many travellers.
✅ How the Aadhaar Rule Has Evolved
Indian Railways earlier introduced Aadhaar-based authentication mainly to control misuse during high-demand booking hours.
- Initially, Aadhaar verification was mandatory for ticket booking during the first 15 minutes of general reservation opening.
- Later, this rule was extended for a longer duration—from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
- Now, the booking window has been widened further to improve access for genuine passengers.
✅ Why Did IRCTC Extend Booking Hours?
According to reports, the main purpose behind this change is to support real passengers and reduce unfair practices in the ticket booking system.
Indian Railways aims to:
✅ Prevent ticket hoarding by agents and touts
✅ Improve transparency in reservations
✅ Strengthen security through Aadhaar authentication
The Ministry of Railways also highlighted that Aadhaar-based verification makes the booking process more secure and reliable.
